The WND Atom Van Gogh paints a pretty picture with Wireless ear piece users

May 22nd, 2008 by Phones Review

Not only are WND bringing us their new double phone Wind Duo 2000, a back to back double screen, double SIM, double keyboard mobile phone, they are now bringing us the WND Atom Van Gogh, which also brings the users something quite new, and that is a Bluetooth headset that folds away into the back of the mobile handset, seems like a cool idea to me.

WND bill the Atom Van Gogh as “catering for dynamic users in search of phenomenal functionality and performance. The in-built, detachable wireless earpiece gives the WND Atom Van Gogh a unique edge and delivers a much-needed, long-awaited solution to today’s mobile users. The phone incorporates twin cameras which can be used for both still photography and video capture, while the music player lets users play back their favourite music files in MP3 and other formats.”

WND Atom Van Gogh

Specs on the Atom Van Gogh are: tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, 2.0 inch TFT LCD QVGA display, built-in 3.0 megapixel camera with auto-focus, 128MB storage memory, 128×64Mbits PGM memory, and measures 105 x 48 x 15mm and weighs 75 grams, and according to WND the Atom Van Gogh can be used seamlessly across continents.

Ok so the specs look reasonable, and the Atom Van Gogh is 15mm thick, so fairly thin considering it houses a Bluetooth headset in its back, appearance wise it looks a descent enough mobile phone judging from the images. Although the WND website doesn’t give a price or availability date we believe this one is coming soon.

Hmm writing this has jogged my memory about a post I did the other day, (see here) maybe I was right and the WND Atom Van Gogh will beat them to the Bluetooth post!

Apple iPhone may be taking that slow boat to China

May 22nd, 2008 by Phones Review

Apple have been seeking international deals for their iPhone for some time now, and one of the biggies has to be China, as if Apple can actually strike a deal with China then the abundance of unofficial unlocked iPhone over there just may cut back a bit, and besides there are more people in China than there are in America so makes for good business to break into the Chinese market.

Jason Schwarz writes for SeekingAlpha, saying: “Over the last few weeks Apple has been signing international iPhone distribution deals at an astounding pace. Why so much urgency? Sure, they want the 3G iPhone to become a major global player, but the urgency has everything to do with their home court advantage; aka, the low dollar. Even Apple has taken notice that the low dollar might be on its way out and they realize that it’s time to seize the moment. Let’s take a look at the granddaddy of them all, India. Vodafone and Bharti Airtel will reportedly market the new handset through a staggering 250,000 retail outlets, including franchisee-owned shops. Compare this rollout with the meagre 7,000 Apple and AT&T stores in the US.”

Swartz went on to write “On top of this staggering 250,000 number, consider the profit effect of the low dollar; iPhones will be priced at 23,000 Rs or about $545 each. The US retail price is $399. The raucous [NBA] fans in Boston, Utah, New Orleans or San Antonio can’t touch that kind of home court advantage.”

So, apparently Apple has a new board member, Avon CEO Andrea Jung, who was responsible for Avon’s direct sales launch in China, so could this mean the Apple iPhone is taking that slow boat to China?

Well considering China Mobile has a subscriber base of some 375 million, the largest in the world mind you, and already supplies a service to the 400,000 unlocked and smuggled iPhone in China. Therefore it shouldn’t really come as a surprise that the only board member not to be at the annual shareholders meeting in March was Andrea Jung, could this be because she was in China negotiating a deal?

We have a video below of the homemade training wheel in action but let me chat about it for a little bit. The Wii Wheel is pretty hard to handle and obviously this person in the video thought so as well and that is why the Wii Wheel housing was made.

Nintendo Wii Fanboy’s Revolutionary columnist Mike Sylvester is the one behind this revolutionary do-it-yourself training wheel and we think he might have hit the jackpot, hey get it into shops quick. He just wanted to make racing games much easier to handle, he says that when he was writing for GlovePIE script for MotoGP 2 he wanted to be able to twist the Nintendo Wii Remote for throttle whilst tilting it to steer and this is when he found a simple way to do it.

Hands-on: Roku Netflix Player for Movies on Demand: It may be an Apple TV Rival

May 22nd, 2008 by Mark

roku-netflix-player-hands-on-top
Could this Roku’s Netflix Player be an Apple TV rival? We will have to wait and see. The Roku Netflix Player has just had a hands on review by Engadget and they have said some interesting things like the question above for example plus the fact do we need another set top box in our homes?

They say that the Roku’s Netflix Player seems understated like it coming in a plain purple box it shipped in right down to the fact of the nondescript black plastic case and even the stripped-bare user interface. Engadget have said that it is quite easy to fall in love with the Roku Netflix Player which costs $100. Netflix subscribers will get very cheap and easy avenue for additional content to their TV and could be a streaming video box nice enough to rival the Apple TV. The Roku’s Netflix Player is very light and with support for 802.11b/g with WEP, WPA, and WPA2 seems pretty good so far.

It includes composite, component, S-Video, HDMI, and TOSLINK, even activating the box is as simple as hitting netflix.com/activate and entering a short code, they say the remote looks cheap but does feel good, the interface is at its best and looks simple and does not have a lot of options which makes it straight-forward. Please visit the source link below for the full hands on review and see what you think, be sure to come back and comment as much as you like.

Answer this question “Could the Roku Netflix Player rival Apple TV?

Cash and cheque don’t cut it with Apple iPhone for AT&T and only one each

May 22nd, 2008 by Phones Review

Stocks of the Apple iPhone are slipping away ahead of the expected release of the new 3G Apple iPhone, and because of this AT&T have issued a memo taking them back to the Apple iPhone early days when their policy was one Apple iPhone per customer.

Since the Apple iPhone’s launch way back in June of 07, both Apple and AT&T stores have instigated various limitations on purchasing an Apple iPhone, and that was presumably a measure solely designed to slow down the re-sales of unlocked Apple iPhones.

However, now it can easily be said that this isn’t the case but more that there just isn’t enough Apple iPhone handsets to meet demands, and thus this one iPhone purchase per customer has been put in place.

The AT&T Mobility memo states: only one iPhone per customer can now be purchased at AT&T stores and the prior limit of three no longer applies as of the 14th of May 2008. Also AT&T will now no longer accept cheques or cash (is cash becoming a dirty word these days, I can remember when cash was more than acceptable) and will only allow purchases via credit or debit card.

Apple iPhone

Ok so I can understand limiting purchases to one per customer, but really not accepting cash is a bit of a joke right? Since when did electronic money become so much better than real hard cash?

Apparently over the weekend both UK and US stores stopped accepting orders for the Apple iPhone, whereas overseas fair somewhat better. Seems like Apple need to get their finger out with the launch of the 3G Apple iPhone.

CSI Stick: street level officers cop an arresting tool to stick it to your mobile

May 22nd, 2008 by Phones Review

The Paraben Corporation in the States has unveiled a thumb sized drive which gathers info from mobile phones, nicknamed the CSI Stick; it’s the Cell Seizure Investigator Stick. Apparently the CSI Stick gives street patrol level police officers the ability to capture data from someone’s mobile phone. Presumably this will be used to capture any data that may be deemed evidence of crime, or present at scene, and is operated by a one button procedure.

According to Jay Poupard of the Michigan State Police, by using the CSI Stick police officers with have the ability “to view media quickly and at the same time the stick maintains a forensic image for full exam by forensic lab personnel.”

CSI Stick

Paraben bill the CSI Stick as “THE portable cell phone forensic and data gathering tool that opens the world of digital forensics to anyone needing to gather forensic grade data from cell phones.”

Apparently it’s just a matter of plugging the CSI Stick into the mobile phone, and selecting the data that is required via the side switch and the device will extract a logical copy which gets all available active data including multimedia files and texts. A text filter that will copy all SMS and text messages along with call logs and phonebook; the multimedia filter will copy all available movies and images, while a physical memory will grab all memory on the mobile handset.

Ok so this new intrusion device does seem a tad Big Brother to me as it can capture all data from a mobile phone. Yes I know it could be vital to an investigation and collecting evidence, but what about intrusion of privacy? I think maybe certain official procedures would need to be put into place to protect the privacy rights of the public at large. I also see that anyone can purchase the CSI Stick from the website, which means that just about anyone can gain access to anyone’s mobile phone!

The CSI Stick apparently supports 330 models of Samsung and Motorola handsets at present and more manufacturers expected to come onboard in the future. Does this now mean private texts and conversations are now no long private? Is the ability for anyone to grab your mobile and suck out all data an invasion of privacy? Let us know your thoughts on this one.

Apple iPhone versus Blackberry Bold Hands on Video Review

May 22nd, 2008 by Phones Review

The Apple iPhone versus BlackBerry Bold is what everyone is talking about at the moment and we have a video below which you can watch thanks to a good source. We would still love to know when officially the Bold will be available by RIM or AT&T.

The iPhone Blog got their hands on these two mobile phones and compared the two together, they have tons of images. We will not tell you too much of who is the winner, which has the best because that will spoil the video provided below. On a personal note I can big up the Apple iPhone because I have one and until I get my hands on the Blackberry Bold I will have to stand back on judgment, both phones look very good in the spec department and both phones look very good indeed, choosing a winner here we feel will be pretty damn hard.

Controversial Jaguar TV campaign to Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Drifting

May 22nd, 2008 by Peter

Do you remember a few years back when the new Jaguar XK came out, the company launched an ad campaign which critics had to question. The message in the ad was subtle, where is showed that older men were able to have fun with ladies of a younger age. Well it seems as if Lamborghini have learned from that Jag ad and taken their ad for the new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 a little further. The ad was shot in downtown Los Angeles, where you could see the supercar drifting around on the roads.

This car shows you what the car can do, but I also love the messages that the new ad gives, about what will happen when you drive around in the vehicle. It shows that if you were to drive the Gallardo LP560-4, then it will help you collect the names and phone numbers of tall brunettes, now I have to get one. The ad also puts the message across that if you own one of these Italian supercars, then you will be guaranteed access to all the trendy bars in town.

Also in the video you get two see two Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4’s facing up against each other, one black and the other white, it’s as if two bull’s are facing up for a fight. The two cars then drive out of LA and then start on their long journey on long winding roads, just to show you how well they handle.

The ad is pure genius, check it out below.

Rumour of new Twin SIM DX900 Mobile Phone from E-TEN

May 22nd, 2008 by Phones Review

Word on the web is that we will soon be seeing a new Windows Mobile twin SIM mobile unveiled by E-TEN at Taiwan’s Computex next month, that’s two SIMs. The new mobile phone is part of E-TEN’s Glofiish series and is called the DX900, and is supposed to be quite a powerhouse of a mobile.

The DX900 is tri-band UMTS/HSDPA and quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, with FM radio, GPS motion sensor, 3 megapixel auto-focus camera, VGA display, 256MB ROM and expansion via microSDHC. The DX900 is reportedly to run on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, and has Bluetooth 2.0+EDR along with WiFi b/g, all being powered by a Samsung CPU.

E-TEN Glofiish DX900

The E-TEN has a 2.8 touch-screen 640 x 480 pixel, and also has a front facing QVGA camera for its UMTS video telephony. Unfortunately the E-TEN DX900 lacks the mobile TV that the E-TEN V900 has. The DX900 measures 106 x 60.5 x 17mm with a weight of 147 grams.
Well that’s about it so far on the E-Ten DX900 mobile phone, other than as yet a price or availability hasn’t been announced. As more information becomes available well keep you up to date.
